How do we take the money out of the RESP account?

You or your child are able to withdraw the CLB money from an RESP account once your child has accomplished the following:

  • Graduated from high school
  • Enrolled in a qualifying part-time or full-time post-secondary education program at one of the types of schools listed above.

To withdraw the money, you must give the following to your RESP provider:

  • Proof of your child’s enrollment at a post-secondary program. This could be your child’s acceptance letter, tuition invoice, etc.

If your child decides not to continue their education after high school, you have options for what to do with the money in their RESP account. Visit the CanLearn Website to learn more.

Are there any limits on how I can use the money in the RESP account?

There are a few limits on how you can use the money the Government puts in your child’s RESP account. All the money gained from the CLB and CESG must be used on post-secondary school expenses like tuition, books, and transportation. There are no limits to how you spend the money you put into the account.
